Raise the mizzen mast
Note the small black flag.
This is the "black day" flag, as opposed to the "red day" flat, which indicates to students of this junior high what classes they attend on that day. I noticed it, again, in dropping my son off.
I guess I can't help it, but I find the flags amusing. I suspect that hardly any junior high aged kid pays any attention to them, and they have a calendar at home which is supposed to clue them into the day as it is. To me, it has a certain nautical flare to it, like various signals flags of old.
