Have you noticed an increase in the number of rattlesnakes in your area?
I'd never even seen a rattlesnake until a couple of years ago when it seemed like I was seeing them everywhere.
The closest calls we've had was once when I was cutting down a cedar tree and almost got bitten by one that was curled up at the base of the tree (it was a little cold which is probably what saved me). And, Dad was getting out of the truck and almost stepped on one laying in the driveway.
Most of the ones I see are relatively large, so they must have been here awhile. But, why they have shown up all of the sudden is a mystery to me. It should mean something, but I can't figure it out.
Rich, this year, I've actually seen fewer rattlesnakes. Or perhaps I'm just missing them this year.
The last couple of years, however, they seemed to be everywhere. Of course, they are not uncommon here anyhow, but the numbers seemed to be vast. This past summer, however, I haven't seen a single one.
