Well laid out elk camp.

Unusually well laid out elk camp, noticed in passing.

  1. The little bit of elk experience I have is at altitude after a gut-busting hike from the truck with thick trees, brush, and a few open areas.

Are the elk out in more open country like that in WY?

  2. This photo is actually deceptive. There are a lot of dense stands of trees in this area, broken up by areas like this. The other photo that I put up shows it better.

This is at 8500 feet. The elk wouldn't be out in an area like this while the pressure is on, but might be otherwise. You will see them in the summer in an area like this, but you'd be more likely to catch them in a much less open area, near a thick stand of trees.

  3. Looking at the other photo, I'd have to say that it is also a bit deceptive. While there's a lot of open country in this part of the Big Horns, there are a lot of thick stands of timber as well. These photos aren't really showing that.
